Dora
Mare
Black
Andalusian
Dora was discovered by humane officers in the fall of 2025 in deplorable conditions. She was alone, in a tiny pen with no shelter from the elements. The pen was full of feces and urine, and it was clear to the officers that it had not been cleaned in months if not years. Dora had not received any dental, farrier or veterinary care for years. The owner did feed Dora minimally, so she was not emaciated but she was thin. The owner said Dora had not been outside of the tiny 12x12 pen for multiple years. She had been standing in her own waste and filth for years with no care or shelter and no exercise.
The humane officer knew that the owner was not willing to comply with their instructions to improve Dora's care, so they decided to seize her and quickly moved her to a veterinary clinic for care. Once at the vet clinic Dora was scanned for a microchip and they were surprised that she did have a microchip.
The microchip revealed that Dora's is a registered Andalusian who was born in Spain in 1997. The microchip further revealed that Dora's registered name is Doradita VII, she was imported into the US in the early 2000s and she has 6 registered foals. Somehow this impeccably bred Spanish mare fell through the cracks and ended up in the middle of nowhere forgotten by everyone that she was loyal to for years.
Through it all Dora remains a sweet and gentle mare. She is a very intelligent old girl with a sparkle in her eye. Redwings is committed to giving this beautiful old lady the retirement she deserves.
