Quarter Horse

Chili was seized in Northern California from a hoarding situation. When Animal Services arrived, they were horrified to find over 60 animals on a tiny parcel of land living in deplorable conditions. Some of the animals (mostly pigs) were already deceased, but their bodies remained in the pens with the live animals. There were many kinds of farm animals, from donkeys and horses to pigs and goats, and all of them were in terrible condition. Chili was malnourished, thin with a dull coat, overgrown hooves, and in need of dental care. Most of the other animals quickly found adoptive homes, but Chili was overlooked by all the potential adopters due to his age, chronic lameness, and spicy disposition. Chili arrived at Redwings in April of 2022 and is already looking much better. He has put on weight, had a much-needed visit from the farrier, and his dull coat is shedding out. Our staff is working with Chili daily to gain his confidence and help him be more trusting of people. Due to his age and chronic lameness, Chili will most likely be a permanent sanctuary resident.
