Heartbreaker is a courageous little Arabian that beat the odds and survived years of neglect. On the 4th of July 35-year-old Heartbreaker was found chained in the middle of the desert in Southern California with no food, water or shelter. We do not know how he got there or why is cruel owners neglected him to the point where he was emaciated and then discarded him in the desert, left to die. Thankfully he was discovered that day and reported to Animal Services. Soon after a past board member, Kathleen Burr, heard about his story and immediately reached out to Redwings. A few days later Kathleen picked up Heartbreaker from Lancaster Animal Services and drove him 4 hours up to Redwings. The first week was touch and go as we worked with our vets to get Heartbreaker more comfortable so he would eat better. We had to extract multiple rotten teeth, did blood work and put Heartbreaker on a strict refeeding program. Heartbreaker is gaining weight slowly and is enjoying the company of his new buddy Anna, a blind 34-year-old Appaloosa.
