Chief was born in Texas and brought to California as a three-year-old jumping prospect. Although he enjoyed jumping, it soon became apparent that the work was causing soundness issues and was too much for Chief. He was donated to the therapy program Partners in Equestrian Therapy, where he found his true purpose.
Chief became a wonderful therapy horse and spent nearly 20 years teaching children and adults with disabilities how to ride. Through learning to ride, his clients found happiness, confidence, and increased independence.
After years of loyal service, Chief reached an age when it was time for him to retire. Wanting the very best for him, Partners in Equestrian Therapy reached out to Redwings.
Although Chief is retired from teaching people how to ride, he has found a new job at Redwings. He will be joining five other horses selected for the Redwings Equine Assisted Services program beginning in Spring 2026.
Chief will continue to have an important role, making a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of many people.
