Amia and Kanani were both rescued by a partner rescue in Southern California from a feed lot before they could be sent to auction. We do not know how they ended up at the feed lot or where they came from but they were in pretty rough condition. Our rescue partner was able to care for them and get some weight on them before they were transported to Redwings. Amia is a small mare of some kind of Spanish breeding and Amia had a surprise for us, she is about 4 months pregnant. So next spring we look forward to welcoming a foal. Kanani is a big and gentle mare who looks like a thoroughbred but she is not tattooed. We believe that Kanani has been a recipient mare for an embryo transfer program and ended up at the feed lot when she could no longer carry a foal. She has obviously been bred many times and raised many foals over the years.
