Cooper was seized by San Luis Obispo County Animal Services in December 2018 along with 34 other horses, all in poor condition. Redwings assisted the county in care recommendations and agreed to take Josie, Oliver, and Cooper, who were in the worst condition.
Cooper is a Dun Quarter Horse gelding who was a body score of 3 and was approximately 22 years of age at the time he was seized. Cooper had, at some point, severely fractured his left front sesamoid bone, but he was not treated, and the injury was never stabilized. He now has irreversible damage to his fetlock joint and surrounding tissues, and he will never be sound again. Josie, Oliver, and Cooper are sweethearts despite all they have been through and have made significant progress under Redwings’ care-refeeding regime.
