We don't see too many true Hackney Ponies at rescues and sanctuaries. These adorable and sporty little ponies are not super common in America and are more popular in the UK. They are fancy cart ponies and are known for their high knee action when trotting. How did a gorgeous little hackney pony end up at an auction in Texas, bound for Mexico, we have no idea, but he did. Lucky was rescued at the last second from a transport to Mexico by a partner rescue. Other than being a little thin and having shipping fever, Lucky was in decent condition when he arrived at the partner rescue. In January of 2023, he was transferred to Redwings. We are told that Lucky was trained to ride and drive, so we will be working with him in the coming months to see if he will be suitable as a riding horse.
